Dealing with the Ducati valve service costs

The big service every 15K or 18K miles can be a shock to the wallet. I always tell people to shop around at different dealers or find a good local independent shop to save some cash. It is just part of owning a high performance Italian machine and you cannot skip it if you want the engine to last. But it does make me think twice about how many miles I put on during the summer. Do you do your own oil changes to save up for the big valve service or do you let the shop handle everything?

I saved up for six months to pay for my first big service and it was worth every penny for the peace of mind. The bike actually ran smoother and started faster once the shims were back in spec. I found a local shop that let me watch part of the process and it is amazing how much work goes into those cylinder heads.

Do you try to space out your riding to delay the service or do you just ride and pay?

Leave those timing belts and valve shims to a certified mechanic to avoid any internal damage.
