I put a Factory Pro jet kit in my 1996 M900 and the results are exactly what I wanted. I installed the new main and pilot jets, needles, and emulsion tubes. The bike transitions from idle to the needle jet so smoothly now. And it's much better for stop and go traffic but I still have a little roughness just off idle that I need to fix.
But then I took it out on the twisty canyon roads. I was in second gear a lot, winding it up between corners. After a while I started feeling a lean condition.
Going down the mountain on deceleration, I got some popping and eventually lost power. And I kind of panicked to be honest. I pulled over and checked the fuel line because it's come off before, but it was fine this time. I think the float levels might need some adjusting.
So, was I sucking the fuel out of the bowls faster than they could fill back up during those extended high RPM blasts? It runs great on the highway and around town, but maybe the hard running at three quarters throttle to wide open is draining the bowls.
