Monster 821 help

My neighbor asked me to help him with his 2017 Ducati Monster 821. He's older and doesn't ride much anymore but wants to get it road ready again. We're in Phoenix and the heat's brutal, so we're working early mornings. The dash throws a check engine light after startup. Is there a common sensor or issue that triggers that on the 821?

The CEL could actually pop up for a bunch of little things and the most common I've seen are O2 sensors or an evap issue if it's been sitting, you should pull the codes with a reader if you can before throwing parts at it I guess

Since my neighbor’s 821 has been parked for a while, I’ll plan to pull the codes this week before touching anything. Did you notice if an evap fault clears on its own after a few rides, or does it usually stick until reset? If I can get the codes scanned in the next few days, I should know enough to close the thread by the weekend.

The first thing you need to do is check the battery health. Make sure to clean the sensor plugs and check if the exhaust valve is moving freely.

Afaik, these are common issues why the light shows up on this model.

I’ll scan it first but do you know if a basic OBD2 reader will pull Ducati codes or if I need something model‑specific?
