Race ECU cutting my range?

My 2012 1100 EVO has a Zard exhaust and open airbox. The first time I got it, it had the stock ECU which threw a check engine light, I kind of expected that already since there's no O2 sensor with the setup. I swapped in a race ECU that came with the exhaust and now I'm only getting around 120km before the fuel light kicks in. My old Monster 796 used to get nearly double that. Is this normal with the race ECU, or am I missing something?

Race ECUs usually have fuel maps that run on the richer side to boost performance, which tends to cut down fuel economy quite a bit. It's not uncommon to see a range of around 120 km with an aftermarket race tune, especially when you've got modifications like a full exhaust and an open airbox on the 1100 EVO.

Don't freak out, your range is totally par for the course with that gear combo. Richer tune = less range. Unless you go full race header/exhaust/ECU or add aftermarket tuning, you're not likely to get stock-level distance.

nah, you're not missing anything, you've simply swapped a part that prioritized fuel economy for one that prioritizes performance. The 1100 EVO is a completely different beast from the 796, and with those modifications, it's designed to be ridden hard, not sip gas

you know, the difference between the 796 and the 1100 EVO is night and day, especially with mods. The 796 was factory tuned for a wider audience, but your EVO is now running in track mode all the time.
Think of the extra gas as the price of admission for that sweet Zard sound and the extra torque
