Replace an LED light inside my 2002 900S4 Monster dash capsule

My LED for neutral has failed; and I'd like to replace it. I have the appropriate LED but don't know how to get to it within the dash console. Can anyone advise me on this or tell me where I can access a service manual for this bike to see if it has any information on how to open the dash for such a replacement? Much appreciated.

You'll likely need to carefully separate the housing because the dash capsules aren't designed for easy internal access. A buddy had success by gently prying the two halves apart. If I remember it right, he either started from the top or sides where the seam is. Go slowly and use plastic pry tools if you have them to avoid marring the plastic. Once you're in, the LEDs are usually soldered directly to the circuit board. You'll need a fine-tipped soldering iron and a steady hand to desolder the old one and put the new one in. Make sure to note the polarity of the old LED before you remove it as LEDs are directional.

Thanks ZachHacks! This is most helpful. I've been reluctant to pry this open , not knowing if it was designed in two halves. I'll have to locate some plastic pry tools before I venture inside. Also important is your note regarding polarity. Now I have to decide how important it is for me to have a neutral light.

Yeah, those dash capsules can be a bit tricky since theyre usually snapped together rather than screwed, so plastic pry tools are definitely the way to go to avoid damage. And yup, LED polarity matters, a quick test with a battery before final install can save headaches. As for the neutral light, i get it, some ride fine without it, but having that clear indication can save you from a few surprises, especially when starting out or in stop and go traffic. Probably you will need plastic tools and a heat gun, usually the panels that are not screwed are glued, and the heat helps to disassemble them.

Appreciate the comment about being glued vs just being snapped together. I was wondering why even using the plastic tools it still wasn't separating.
