Restoring 2006 Monster S4RS

I was thrilled to find a 2006 Monster S4RS up for sale and bought it immediately.
I heard people call it the "best and most Ducati Monster ever built!"
Upon closer inspection, I realized there's a lot that needs replacement and repair.
The gas tank, radiator, engine paint and I'm discovering more and more each time I check.
I'm still committed to finish this project and I'd like to ask for tips and insights how to approach this restoration job.
Anything else I should check, or where should I start?

For me, I say just make sure to check the wirings, brake lines and clutch. Don't forget the tires, too.

Congrats on the S4RS, you can start with the basics...the frame, suspension, and wiring, also address the gas tank and radiator leaks first and for engine paint, clean and protect before repainting..you should be good

This may be totally different from what they're saying but I'd recommend starting with a full, meticulous tear-down and assessment. But of course, only do this when you feel confident enough! Take tons of photos, label every part, and make a comprehensive list of everything that needs attention. Once you have that complete picture, you can prioritize. Usually, safety and structural integrity come first, then mechanical, and finally cosmetics. For parts, original Ducati is ideal but reproductions are out there, and sometimes better quality. Don't rush and enjoy the process! That S4RS is will be even more special when it's done!

Great choice. The RS is possibly one of the most "ducati" ducks you can find anymore. Four-valve desmo heads, dry clutch, full trellis frame, all that stuff is gone on newer models.
I did a complete tear-down and overhaul of my 2007 S4RS a few years ago. There were some pic's of it on the old site, not sure if the Monster riders bikes "photos" page exists any more.
I had my frame grit-blasted and powder-coated (black, from grey) polished the aluminum swingarm, put aftermarket stuff on for comfort and performance. Not much given to looks, I like a runner.
Did minor engine stuff, the 998 motor is pretty hot already. Did add aftermarket valve keepers while doing the engine update.
