Single Sided Swingarm Appeal

The single sided swingarm on models like the S2R or the 1100 is one of the best looking parts Ducati ever made. It makes chain adjustments and tire changes look like a work of art. But the double sided setups are lighter and often more rigid for serious riding. Do you choose your Monster based on the swingarm style or does it not matter to you?

It is the main reason I bought an 1100 instead of the smaller models. Every time I walk into the garage and see that exposed rear wheel I know I made the right choice. It is one of the most iconic design features Ducati has.

The maintenance is so much easier when you do not have to worry about wheel alignment. You just adjust the eccentric hub and the chain tension is perfect every time. I can change a rear tire in half the time it takes on a standard bike.

I actually prefer the look of the braced double sided swingarm on the S4. It looks much more industrial and strong like it was built for a purpose. Plus it is easier to find aftermarket stands that fit a standard swingarm.
