Okay, I'm looking to build a Monster on a budget and want to use a dry clutch. I've found a modified S2R 1000 and a stock 1100 close to me. Since I plan to do some customization, is the 1100 worth spending more money on?

If you're planning heavy mods anyway, the S2R 1000 could save you some cash up front. The 1100's nice, but unless you really want the extra torque stock, you might get more value customizing the 1000 to your taste

If you're set on a dry clutch and want more torque plus nicer suspension/brakes out of the box, the 1100 is worth the extra cash and especially a pre EVO. But if the S2R is already well sorted and cheaper, it's still an okay platform for a budget build

They are right! The most important thing is the condition of each bike and how much work you’re willing to take on. A clean S2R can be a better starting point than a pricier 1100 that still needs attention.
