Ducati Monster 796 ECU swap

my brother's awesome 2013 ducati monster 796 has a fried ECU. We found one for sale, it's off a 2014 ducati monster 796 with the exact same part number.
this is the first time for my brother and me to swap an ECU. is this gonna be just plug and play?
or are we going to need some fancy dealer reflash/reprogramming to get it to talk to the ignition key?
Anyone know the deal with swapping Monster's ECU?

That ECU with the exact same part number will physically plug in and the engine might start, but it's not plug-and-play. You'll almost certainly need to pair it to your brother's dash and ignition key because of the immobilizer system. The replacement ECU won't recognize your key's transponder. Your best options are either taking the bike to a Ducati dealer or specialist to perform a Key Code Learning procedure with their DDS tool. Your other option is to send both the old and new ECUs to a cloning service to transfer the immobilizer data.. which then makes it plug-and-play when it returns.

I think it's likely a plug-and-play because you matched the part numbers, so meaning the engine mapping is correct.
