My neighbor gave me a heads up about a clean 2012 Monster 796 with Termi pipes and low mileage. Took it for a ride last weekend and the throttle response blew me away. Planning a full service and new tires before I start commuting with it. Anyone running bar end mirrors on theirs or does the stock setup do the job?

the stock Monster mirrors are notorious for showing you a lot of elbow and not much else, plus they can get buzzy.
For commuting, bar end mirrors are a game changer for visibility.
They definitely make the bike a hair wider for lane splitting (if that's your thing), but the view behind you is usually way better. Just make sure to get good quality ones that don't vibrate like crazy

I do plan to lane split now and then so I'll need to think about the extra width. Do you run mirrors that clamp on or ones that replace the bar ends entirely? I'm hoping to get everything sorted during the service next week so I can start riding it to work by mid-August.

I've used Rizoma handlebar mirrors before, and they're terrible.
The stock mirrors are perfect, you just adjust them to your position, and that's it.
You can see everything behind you, including both side lines.

I've heard mixed things about Rizoma, so it's helpful to hear a firsthand take. I gave the stock mirrors another shot this week and adjusted them more aggressively, but I'm still getting mostly elbow unless I shift my posture. I'm not ruling them out, but I might test a clamp-on bar end setup that doesn't add much width. Service should be wrapped up this weekend. I'll decide once the new tires are on and everything is dialed in. If anyone's found a low-profile mirror that doesn't buzz or block lane splitting, I'd like to know what worked.
