Won't start after an oil problem

I am the original owner of my 2007 Ducati S2R 800 and lately it's been a nightmare to start... maybe because of a loose fuel pump connection I've suspected for years and unfortunately ignored. Before it completely died, I had to spray it with starting fluid just to get it going. But the final thing happened right after I accidentally overfilled the oil by two quarts and though it started up and ran for a block, it then just slowly died like it ran out of gas. I immediately drained the oil back to the correct level. I did it fast thought it'll save it.
But now the bike will start briefly if I use starting fluid but it won't stay running. I took the gas tank off, pulled out the fuel pump assembly, and I can hear it make a noise and turn when I key the bike on. But I am not sure if it's pushing fuel as strongly as it should, and since it runs on starting fluid, it seems like a clear fueling problem. Do you think the fuel pump is damaged from either the old wiring issue or maybe even the oil overfill somehow. And should I just replace the pump next since I can make the engine briefly fire? Make sure to have your pressure fuel checked or better yet, take the yours to a trusted shop for pump assembly testing.
